At a glance
Techvaria is an Odoo partner for Oman, implementing Odoo ERP in Muscat and across the country for Omani trading, distribution, manufacturing and services companies. We set up Odoo for Oman VAT, OMR accounting and Arabic reporting, and we plan your Fawtara e-invoicing integration as part of the project rather than as an afterthought. Delivery is remote from our offices in Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Dubai, on the same clock as Oman.
We are also a Zoho Premium Partner, implementing since 2016 with 350+ implementations. Because we implement both platforms, this page includes an honest comparison to help you decide which one suits your business. We do not have an office or staff in Oman.
Odoo implementation in Oman: what we set up
An Odoo project with us covers the modules your business runs on, configured for Omani rules and your own processes:
- Accounting: chart of accounts, OMR as the company currency, bank journals, analytic accounts and period closing.
- Sales and CRM: leads, quotations, pricelists by customer group, and sales orders that flow into invoices and deliveries.
- Purchase and Inventory: multiple warehouses, landed costs on imports, lot and serial tracking, reordering rules.
- Manufacturing: bills of materials, work orders and costing, where you produce or assemble locally.
- Reporting: VAT reports, receivables ageing and stock valuation, with Arabic and English report layouts.
We run the project in phases, starting with accounting, sales and stock, then adding manufacturing, HR or a customer portal once the core is stable.
Oman VAT, OMR and Arabic reports in Odoo
Oman VAT is 5% and has applied since April 2021. Omani VAT numbers carry the OM prefix. In Odoo we set up:
- Tax records for standard-rated, zero-rated and exempt supplies
- Fiscal positions so foreign and GCC customers get the correct tax treatment automatically
- Customer and vendor VAT numbers captured with the OM prefix and checked during data migration
- OMR with three-decimal precision, plus foreign currencies with your exchange rate source
- Bilingual Arabic and English invoice and statement templates
This master data is also what Fawtara depends on, so getting it right at implementation saves rework later.
Odoo Fawtara: integration plan
Oman’s Fawtara e-invoicing is mandatory from 1 April 2027 for taxpayers with annual supplies above OMR 5 million, and from 1 October 2027 for all other VAT taxpayers. These are dates as announced; confirm against the OTA before go-live.
Odoo Fawtara support is third-party only today. One example is Pokutsoft’s Oman Fawtara modules on the Odoo Apps store, listed for Odoo 18 and 19. A module handles the invoice format and connection on the Odoo side, but it does not replace an OTA-accredited service provider. You still need a contract with one, and the taxpayer remains liable for the invoices submitted.
Our Fawtara work on Odoo covers:
- Data audit of customer VAT numbers, product codes and tax mappings
- Shortlisting accredited providers that suit your volume and invoice types
- Reviewing or building the Odoo module, and extending it for your custom fields
- Sandbox testing with credit notes, foreign currency and mixed-rate invoices
- Cut-over before your phase date, with a rejection-handling routine for finance
So the setup is Odoo plus an integration with an OTA-accredited provider. Techvaria is not an accredited provider. How we run Odoo projects end to end is on our Odoo implementation page.
Odoo or Zoho for your Oman business
We implement both, so we have no reason to push one. The right choice depends on how you operate.
| Factor | Odoo | Zoho |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | Manufacturing, multi-warehouse distribution, companies wanting one ERP database | Sales-led and services companies, traders wanting fast rollout across CRM, Books and Inventory |
| Oman VAT | Configured in Odoo accounting with tax records and fiscal positions | Zoho Books Oman edition, VAT compliant, shows VATIN on invoices |
| Fawtara today | Third-party modules plus an OTA-accredited provider | No native support announced; needs an integration with an OTA-accredited provider |
| Custom processes | Python modules built by Odoo developers | Zoho Creator apps built in Deluge, usually faster to change |
| Hosting | Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own server | Zoho cloud only |
| Upgrades | Custom modules need testing at each major version | Zoho updates apps for you; custom Creator apps carry on |
If Zoho looks like the better fit, see our Zoho partner Oman page.
Industries we build for in Oman
Odoo fits best where stock, production and project costs all need to sit in one database. These are the Omani sectors where we see that need most often, and what the build covers.
| Industry | Typical Odoo build | Local rule or system to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing | Bills of materials, work orders, quality checks, lot tracking and landed costs on imported raw materials | 5% VAT, OMR three-decimal costing, Fawtara on sales invoices |
| Trading and distribution | Multi-warehouse inventory, pricelists by customer group, reordering rules, delivery routes and customer credit limits | OM-prefixed VAT numbers checked on every customer, credit notes linked to returns |
| Oil and gas services and contractors | Project and analytic accounting per contract, purchase approvals, equipment maintenance, and a document register for certificates | Suppliers bidding to oil and gas operators need an active JSRS certificate, mandated by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals for bidding suppliers from 1 July 2021 |
| Construction and contracting | Project costing, BOQ against actuals, subcontractor bills, progress invoices and retention | Progress billing in a structured form that Fawtara can carry |
| Logistics and freight forwarding | Job costing per shipment, fleet maintenance, warehouse operations and customer billing | MTCIT has announced rising Omanisation rates for transport and logistics, which Odoo HR can report by role and nationality |
For businesses at the Sohar, Duqm or Salalah ports and free zones, we set up Odoo with separate warehouses and analytic accounts per site, so stock and costs stay visible by location.
Moving to Odoo from your current system
Most Odoo projects in Oman replace something: Tally, QuickBooks, Sage, an older ERP or a set of spreadsheets. The migration is where projects slip, so we plan it from the first week:
- Masters first: customers, vendors, products and the chart of accounts, cleaned and deduplicated before import
- VAT data checked: OM-prefixed VAT numbers and tax mappings verified, since Fawtara will depend on them
- Open items: unpaid invoices and bills, open sales and purchase orders, and stock on hand by warehouse and lot
- Opening balances: trial balance at an agreed cut-over date, usually a month or year end
- Reconciliation: receivables, payables, bank and stock valuation matched to your old system before sign-off
We usually bring across balances and open items rather than full transaction history, and keep the old system read-only for reference. That keeps the Odoo database clean and the cut-over short.
Odoo development and support
After go-live, most Odoo clients need ongoing changes: a new report, a field on the delivery note, an integration with a bank or logistics provider, or a version upgrade. You can retain our team for this or hire a dedicated Odoo developer on a monthly basis. If you are moving from an older system, we plan the data migration, opening balances and parallel run. See case studies for examples of our project work.
How delivery works
Techvaria has offices in Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Dubai, where we operate as Techvaria IT Services LLC. Oman is on GMT+4, the same as Dubai, and India is 1.5 hours ahead, so the full Omani working day overlaps with our office hours. Workshops, user training and go-live support run live over video. Our Dubai team can travel to Muscat for kick-off or go-live when the project needs it. Development and testing continue from India between sessions.
Scoping and pricing
We quote Odoo projects in OMR after a scoping call. The quote depends on the modules, users, customisations, data migration and Fawtara integration in scope, and it lists Odoo licence or hosting costs separately from our fees.
